Yes! This is my discussion page -- created for the purpose of side-conversations that aren't likely to be of general interest. I might not always remember to check it frequently, but I'll try to reply to everything here.

ooh, i didn't realise that this could be done! it makes me want to look around and see what else is happening out of the spotlight.

i know only a little about Butler, but she sounds interesting and challenging. an intro to all of her work would probably be the best thing for me. when i decide that i like an author i usually try to get my hands on everything (eventually).

In which case, definitely pick up Blood Child.

If you want to explore her more literary side after that, you could go with Kindred or the two Parable of... books -- be advised, the second one (Parable of the Talents) is fairly dark.

If you like her speculative imagination, there's a couple of good directions you could go. One thing I would not recommend is trying to read her last book, Fledgling, unless you feel like you've started to understand and appreciate some of the idiosyncracies (verging, perhaps, on kinks) she brings to her other spec. fic. work.

I have selected the "Watch this page" option on this page, so in theory I'll get a notice if you come back and post. I'm interested to hear what you think.
