See the Rabbit Seasoning page for full details on this trilogy of cartoons and how to tell them apart.

The core of this cartoon is the "exchange reversal" gag ("Duck season!" "Rabbit season!") which had been used by Bugs before this in Baseball Bugs, and would be used by live-action and cartoon characters many times in the future.

This is the first cartoon to star both Bugs and Daffy, although Bugs had previously had cameos in Daffy cartoons. From here on, the relationship between Bugs and Daffy would always be clearly defined in the way it is here.

Wikipedia: "Richard Thompson said that in the film, there is 'the clearest definition of character roles: Elmer never knows what's going on; Bugs always knows what's going on and is in control of things; Daffy is bright enough to understand how to be in control, but never quite makes it.'"
