From Eccentric Flower

The reason I show you all these calligraphic, hard-to-read signs is not to frustrate you over the characters you don't know, but to let you rejoice at the ones you do.

The first three characters on this sign are a complete mystery (and two of them are so loose that I'm not sure I looked up the correct ones). Their meanings are so odd, taken together, that if it's an idiom I can't make it out. And, no, none of them is "yan."

But that doesn't matter, because you have seen the last three many times by now: EAT (the radical, standing alone), VEGETABLE, and RESTAURANT.

shi2a cai4 guan3

If you encountered this sign in China, without any English text whatsoever, that knowledge alone would give you a leg up.
