NYC trip last weekend went well. Saw friends, had cocktails, ate a very good, very weird, very expensive meal. Hot as hell in NYC that weekend, but all good except for a train trip back home that took eight hours when it should have taken three. Signal outages from New Haven to Providence due to freak weather. Amtrak was very apologetic.
Even then, eight hours delay by train is far more tolerable than eight hours delay by plane. In fact, all aspects of train travel are far more tolerable than plane travel. The fact that train travel is almost extinct in this country is one of the most significant clues that I will never be aligned with the instincts of my countrymen. Apparently, for most Americans, getting there fast trumps all other factors, and they are prepared to put up with all manner of insults to their comfort, their dignity, and their serenity in order to achieve it.
When I got back I found a notice from the company timekeeping system that said I had better use some more vacation or I'd lose accrual, so I took a few extra days off on either side of this weekend, and yesterday spent the whole afternoon tromping around one of the Boston Harbor islands. That process is documented with 74 photos and occasional captions here. That's the real entry today, so go have a look at that.
I may go do other things this weekend, once my ankles stop being sore.

Joy:
I can't comment on your photos because I messed up my flickr account, but I love that first seaglass one. I have a couple of red pieces (I collected a lot as a kid) which were a damn awesome find, with the light bluegreen running in second. Harder to find these days with soda bottles being plastic instead of glass.
