Let's Have More Links

Our budget for bridging material has been cut, and a creativity freeze is in effect for the duration, so here are some more links in strictly come-as-you-are fashion.

National good news: Washington DC says "screw you" to Congress and says that, as far as the district is concerned, any marriages which are legally recognized in any other states are recognized there.

[EDIT: And Massachusetts is suing the federal government over DOMA. Go Martha!]

Awful Library Books. Actually, not all the books are awful, but as they say in an explanatory note:

No, the books on this blog are not necessarily "awful," it's just that "books that should be reconsidered under interpretation of current collection development policies and retired" is not a fun name for a blog that is just trying to instigate a discussion on quality library collections!

I put that in italics instead of the "quote" block because I had my way with it; not only did I take hyphens out of the long quoted phrase so the line would break, but I feel a librarian should know the difference between "its" and "it's."

By the by, did you know that the meaning of "awful" has drifted considerably in the last, say, sixty to seventy years? It is now exclusively negative in connotation, but back when Harriet Vane was stomping around, Sayers could have have her say that "[Bunter] is a considerably more awful phenomenon than his master," secure in the knowledge that her readers would understand what was meant: awful as in "full of awe." Awe-inspiring. The connotation was severe - i.e. Bunter's perfection is a bit scary - but far from horrible.

Today's word is "impractical."

This was me at Up. Unintended uses of technology!

Secret histories of some classic toys and games. I could personally have enjoyed another three or four pages of this sort of thing.

I am only in recent years learning this is the important question.

The main reason I continue to read Go Fug Yourself is their imaginary dialogues between the people in the photos. This one made me laugh.

Emma Watson is going to be going to college up in my neck of the woods. I am not going to be stalking her. Honest.

I link this Medium Large only because I feel it is the logical companion piece to this one. Um. Which I think I will just present without comment. Yes. That would be best.

Bunny42:

Ah, so THAT'S the important question. Seems to me you've been getting a lot of the former, of late, and, apparently, not nearly enough of the latter. Sigh... I just never know.
