Further Dredgery (II)

See, this is the problem with announcing a Part One. If you don't announce a Part One, then there will be a Part Two unexpectedly and you will wish you'd labeled Part One. But if you announce in advance that Part One is Part One, then Part Two inevitably fizzles out.

Which is to say that: I finished the September 1999 entries, and while I have marked some favorites, the only one which I absolutely commend to your attention (no, really, go read this) is my responses to Stee's survey.

Of course, there's still all that stuff I linked in the preceding entry ....

Meanwhile, in other news, John Scalzi reports two things of note, one of which is germane to this ongoing excavation:

The Times also notes that of the millions of blogs that exist, only a tiny margin get a readership beyond the bloggger and the blogger's mom ("OMG I can't believe my mom read what I wrote about her on my blog"), and thus as a consequence most are eventually abandoned. But again, this is no real surprise; the numbers are larger now but the percentages of abandoned blogs has been fairly consistent for years. The vast majority of blogs, in fact, have nothing but the following three posts:

Post One: "Here's my blog! This is where I'm going to share all my thoughts about life, the universe and everything! It's going to be great and I can't wait to tell you all what I'm thinking about everything!"

Post Two: "Hey, sorry I haven't updated in a while — life's been crazy. But I'll be back soon."

Post Three: "Here's a picture of my cat."

And then it's done.

I think he's right, which is sort of heartening as I dredge through this mess. I may be nearly unbearable to read, at times, but by god, I have been doing this consistently for years now! I may be a mess, but I am a determined mess.

His other post is a note that the Land of the Lost remake has apparently already tanked. It is always nice to see modest proof that there is some cosmic justice remaining in the world.

I wish there were user labels here. "A determined mess" is yours!

Can I just say that I love your answer to the 'it's 4 pm' question?
