I'm not dead, just resting
I just put up a couple of items on mouth organ basically as placeholders, to let the readers know I'm not dead. It occurred to me that I should probably do the same here.
I'm not dead.
What have I been up to?
Well, let's see.
At work I am putting out one new cut of code approximately every day and a half. The goal is to be done with all primary work and feedback by the end of the month, which means I have less than a week left to finish anything major - however, I am more or less on track to achieve that.
I took most of the day off to work on a CGI for Heather. (Actually I spent some of the afternoon playing games.)
I have been playing a lot of games lately. I've been sleeping poorly and when I'm in that muddled insomniac state, computer games are one of the few things I can do. I certainly can't code or write, and I don't like to read books when I'm suffering from three-am syndrome because I'll get caught up in the book and stay up longer, whereas if I do it right, half an hour of the computer game will exhaust me and I can sleep. Unfortunately I am now going to have to change tactics - I think it's losing its effect.
Today, for example, I got up after having slept poorly, went to work, couldn't concentrate, went home, took a nap, got up, was still muddled, played computer games for a few hours, and was finally focused enough to spend the rest of the evening working on Heather's code.
I realized I have a lot of game CDs. No, I mean a lot. The other night I spontaneously decided to clean them out. I'm going to give away all the ones I don't think I'll ever want to replay. (I tend to tuck them away for three or four years and then play them again after I've forgotten what they were like.)
I should be doing more cleaning. May is moving month. We got insurance the other day; there are no more hurdles to closing.
I am answering email, but only the parts that don't require me to think. I'm definitely in "short answer" mode this week. Oh, and except for URLs. I haven't surfed a lick. If you've sent a "lookit this site" email, it's still in the pile.
I forgot to tell Aussie happy birthday.
The L story is proving difficult. The problem is that I keep interpreting the starter sentence to mean that it's about positions, and writing about sexual positions has always struck me as one of the most clinical, unsexy things around. I mean, really, who cares how you do the Hokey Pokey as long as you're enjoying it?
Hrmph. But I shall persevere.I discarded idea number one (partly because I didn't like it, and partly because I want to reserve its venue for the Z story). Idea number two is still on probation.
It doesn't help that the M story is science fiction and I'm really sorta eager to write it, but can't.
Anyway, that's the news.
