Feeling girly
I am apparently in a very girly period at the moment. I wonder sometimes (Nonelvis has mentioned this as well) if I should chart these trends, if they follow some sort of hormonal cycle.
At any rate, last night I shaved my legs, which may not seem significant to you except that I generally don't do it unless I'm planning to go out in stockings or a dress or both ... and I'm not planning to do either ... I just needed to have smooth legs for some reason. This takes forty-five minutes (not having shaved them in ages), so you can see it wasn't exactly a casual whim. It was a deliberate whim, one I don't fully understand.
I got smart this time - I brought the portable CD player into the bathroom. Not only did it make the experience less tiresome, but that's how I know it took about forty-five minutes.
Tonight I went to the Lands' End site to experiment with their Virtual Model program. It's got quite a few limitations - a narrow range of body types and so forth, and then when you pick one, there aren't really a lot of clothes to try on - but it was a fun toy, and I confirmed what I already suspected; most of the women's clothing at Lands' End looks horrid on me. (Now, L.L. Bean has some stuff I look great in, but for them I'll just drive up to Freeport and go to the store.)
I was going to show you what the virtual model I made looks like, but their site uses cookies so heavily that I can't. If you're curious, you'll have to go to the model creation page and give the following answers:
- My shoulders are broader than my hips. (Hips? What hips?)
- My bust size is smaller. (Even with the silicone it's a B cup.)
- My waist is somewhat un-defined. (Actually it's pretty well-defined, but without hips, it's safer to give this answer.)
- Choose the second skin tone, the pinkest one.
- I have an oval face.
- None of the hairstyles matches mine. The third one is the closest approximation.
- My hair is brown, although not that shade.
- Name the model Columbine for proper effect.
I think it's actually a pretty good representation, except for the hair, and the fashion advice about ways to make my waist more defined is sound ... but why, in the casual outfits they offer as samples, did they choose nothing but sleeveless tops? Don't they expect that a person whose shoulders are that broad would want to minimize their visual effect? If I wore a sleeveless top with a skirt, my triceps would ruin whatever effect I managed to create.
Still a few bugs in the system, I guess.
Even so, and even if it's a poor attempt, I wish there were more toys on the web like this. Fun!
