april fifth (barely)
no easter parking
Irreverent remarks today as Columbine attempted to do a little specialty shopping at some boutiques she knew were open on Sundays. Got home, grumpy. "What happened?" "Everything's closed. Apparently these Christians are having some kind of big holiday today."
Okay, okay, I'm offensive. For what it's worth, I don't celebrate any other holidays either, and I try to maintain both an open mind and a good-natured criticism to all religions. I am taking no bets, I am not ruling out any possibilities, and I do ask hard questions.
I will freely admit that I currently have a grudge against one church. No, not one religion. One church. One facility. The Catholic church down the street. We live right next to the town line; the church is actually in the next town. Its parishoners are not supposed to park over on our side (which uses a resident-permit system). They do anyway.
I recognize that they have a parking problem too, but still, I get tired of circling the block on Sundays trying to find a space for my car. If I were meaner, I'd call the traffic police just as the mass was starting and have them come issue tickets in this area. But I can't bring myself to do that.
Besides, that might call attention to the long-expired inspection sticker in my car. Let she who is without sin hurl the first Easter egg.
That's all I have to say about Easter. There's the whole pagan-Easter-symbols bit, but that's best reserved for Clio, who didn't write this weekend. If that leaves you starved for words, there's a odd little Circular Cruise about the Chinese characters on restaurant signs (don't say I didn't warn you).
Oh, and there's the C story for twenty-six, which was actually posted on 1 April, but I couldn't mention it them because of the Kymm parody, and I had more urgent things to vent the next day, and so ....
The D story is giving me trouble. One of the rules is that I have to write these in alphabetical order, so I gotta get unstuck on D before I can get to E, which will be fun.
