twenty-five march foolish consistency Well, I had a long list of changes I wanted to make to this site today, and I didn't make most of them. I did replace all the Ringleader-style links with real ones, so they'll work, but other than that, the only change is the formatting you see before you. I wanted to put some of the old miscellany back on the site - carve out some of the less dated Stay Tuned material and other such stuff - but I've tried to talk myself into doing that four times, and it hasn't happened yet. The work involved makes me shudder. Looking back at these pages makes me shudder too; there are three different sets of stamps, all but this set ugly; there are plenty of references to things I have stopped doing or places that don't exist anymore, and all sorts of other inconsistencies ... and now the most recent pages will look completely different from the old ones. This wouldn't bother me if I changed my site on a monthly or regular basis, like Anita and others do, but I don't. I leave it for months, until I get bored with it. Then I want the whole thing to match. I wanted to go back and painstakingly change all the stamps (which would be hard, because I'd have to figure out which facial expressions were best represented by which counterparts in the new set). I wanted to extend this new format to the old pages via search-and-replace. Nonelvis talked me out of all this. She said, "It's an archive. It's meant to show where you were. Leave it alone." And she's right. I'm fretting needlessly and wasting mental energy when I could be writing or doing something constructive. Enjoy the new look. And don't blame me if the older entries sometimes seem to refer to things that aren't there. "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds."
